Organized in 1910 as a bucket brigade, the City of Hartwell Fire Department has developed into one of the premiere small town departments in the Southeast, boasting an unprecedented Class 2 ISO fire rating.

training
The Hartwell Fire Department is committed to quality training for its personnel. Our Training Staff are all NPQ Fire Instructor 1 or 2. We have trained our firefighters to the NPQ Firefighter 2 level and each firefighter is NPQ Firefighter 2 Certified. All firefighters are required to obtain their State Firefighter Certification within 1 year of employment. Our Officers are all NPQ Fire Officer 1 or 2 and have their Instructor Certification. Our Fire Inspectors have completed the state Inspector course and are NPQ and State Certified Inspectors. Our Fire Investigators are State Certified Investigators.
